Viet Nga Agri and the “Green Prospects” in the TRVC Project 2025

Recently, Viet Nga Agri had the honor of participating in the Award Ceremony for Crop Season 1 (Summer–Autumn 2024) and the Year 1 Closing Workshop of the project “Transforming Rice Value Chain for Climate Resilient and Sustainable Development in the Mekong Delta (TRVC)”, organized by the Netherlands Development Organisation (SNV) in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment (MARD) and relevant partners in Can Tho City.

The Year 1 Closing Ceremony of the project “Transforming Rice Value Chain for Climate Resilient and Sustainable Development in the Mekong Delta (TRVC)” gathered nearly 100 participants, including representatives from government agencies, research institutes, universities, the private sector, and non-governmental organizations sharing a common vision of improving rice cultivation techniques to enhance grain quality, generate social value, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

At the ceremony, Mr. Le Van Thiet, Deputy Director General of the Department of Crop Production and Plant Protection under the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, delivered an opening address. He emphasized that the TRVC Project has achieved remarkable economic results while generating positive environmental impacts, particularly in reducing greenhouse gas emissions. The rice produced under the project meets strict export standards for demanding markets such as the EU, Japan, and the United States. This demonstrates that the project is making a significant contribution to promoting a low-emission, high-value, and sustainable rice production model, aligning with Vietnam’s international commitments to reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

Thanks to the joint efforts of enterprises and farmers, the project has delivered positive economic, social, and environmental outcomes through the implementation of sustainable rice production practices, achieving lower emission levels compared to conventional methods.

Ms. Christie Getman, Country Director of SNV Vietnam, shared that as an international development organization, SNV is committed to supporting the Government of Vietnam in achieving climate sustainability, particularly within the rice sector. Through the TRVC Project, SNV is actively contributing to the national goal of implementing the “One Million Hectares of High-Quality, Low-Emission Rice Associated with Green Growth in the Mekong Delta by 2030” initiative. The project aims to help farmers adopt low-emission production methods while enhancing their resilience to climate change.

With the strong coordination and support of the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, local authorities, provincial project management boards, and related departments in Dong Thap, An Giang, and Kien Giang, — particularly with the active participation of enterprises and farmers — the registered cultivation area across the three provinces during the Winter–Spring 2024–2025 season has increased fivefold compared to Crop Season 1, reaching over 33,576 hectares as of mid-March 2025.
This marks a positive sign, reflecting both the scalability potential and the effectiveness of the TRVC project’s model.

Although the project has achieved many positive outcomes, the TRVC initiative still needs to further improve its effectiveness in the upcoming crop seasons. The main focus will be on enhancing the MRV (Monitoring, Reporting, and Verification) system to make it more efficient and user-friendly for enterprises, while also encouraging broader participation.
Additionally, the project should continue to strengthen greenhouse gas reduction measures, contributing to environmental protection and the preservation of biodiversity.
Beyond environmental goals, the TRVC project also places strong emphasis on social equity, by promoting gender equality, inclusion of persons with disabilities, and supporting sustainable livelihoods for local communities.

Amid growing challenges from climate change, Viet Nga Agri marked an important milestone in early 2025 on its journey toward sustainable development by participating in the TRVC Project, opening up new prospects for Vietnam’s agricultural sector.

Throughout the implementation process, Viet Nga Agri has not only provided high-quality crop nutrition solutions that help increase productivity and improve rice quality, but has also actively accompanied farmers in the field. The company has worked closely with project partners to offer technical guidance on sustainable farming practices, collect household data, and develop demonstration models, helping to spread advanced cultivation methods.These efforts have brought clear economic benefits, while also transforming farming mindsets—step by step guiding farmers toward a greener, more modern, and sustainable agricultural future.

In the coming period, Viet Nga Agri will continue to expand the project’s scale, striving to become a model enterprise that helps farmers improve cultivation efficiency, increase income, and contribute to the sustainable development of Vietnam’s rice industry.
