On the afternoon of August 21st in Hanoi, the Vietnam Fertilizer Association and the China Agricultural Technology Association held an expanded workshop to promote bilateral agricultural cooperation<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Attending from the Chinese side were leaders from the Guangxi Agricultural Supplies Industry Association, the Agricultural Supplies Market Magazine, and dozens of enterprises in the production and trading of fertilizers and pesticides from various provinces and cities across China.<\/p>\n

Dr. Phung Ha provided an overview of the fertilizer market in Vietnam.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Dr. Phung Ha, President of the Vietnam Fertilizer Association, emphasized: \u201cVietnam is an agricultural country with an annual fertilizer demand of 10-10.5 million tons of various types. In recent years, Vietnam has made significant progress in achieving self-sufficiency in the production of urea fertilizer, phosphorus-containing fertilizers, NPK fertilizers, etc.\u201d <\/p>\n

Mr. Phung Ha added that although domestic fertilizer production has reached a significant level, Vietnam still relies heavily on imports, especially from China. According to the latest figures, the amount of fertilizer imported into Vietnam in the first six months of 2024 reached over 2.58 million tons, with a value of 838 million USD, of which more than 1.03 million tons were imported from China, worth nearly 296 million USD, accounting for 40% of the total volume and 35.3% of the total value of fertilizer imports nationwide. <\/p>\n

The Chairman of the Vietnam Fertilizer Association also proposed strengthening cooperation between Vietnamese and Chinese businesses in the production and distribution of organic fertilizers, aiming to reduce the use of chemical fertilizers and develop sustainable agriculture. In this field, China is considered a strategic partner for Vietnamese agriculture thanks to its outstanding achievements in applying advanced science and technology to agricultural production. <\/p>\n

Sharing his views on agricultural cooperation, particularly in fertilizers and pesticides, between the two countries at the seminar, Mr. Feng Weidong, Deputy Secretary-General of the China Association for Agricultural Technology, emphasized that both Vietnam and China have developed agricultural sectors with many similarities.<\/p>\n

However, China has gone a step further in applying high technology to production. Chinese agriculture now relies not only on manual labor but also widely utilizes modern technologies such as artificial intelligence, drones, and automation equipment. <\/p>\n

Therefore, Mr. Feng Weidong believes that strengthening cooperation with China will help Vietnam quickly access the latest scientific and technological advancements and soon improve the current limitations of its agricultural sector.<\/p>\n

Also at the workshop, Ms. Nguyen Thi Kim Dung, Director of the National Fertilizer Testing and Inspection Center (Department of Plant Protection), shared Vietnam’s orientation regarding the import of fertilizer and pesticide raw materials from China.<\/p>\n

Ms. Dung stated that the Vietnamese market has a great demand for high-quality products and advanced technology from China, and therefore hopes for closer cooperation between businesses of the two countries to enhance the economic value and improve the lives of farmers.<\/p>\n

The workshop concluded with strong consensus among the parties on strengthening cooperation in the fertilizer and agriculture sectors. However, to achieve sustainable development goals, both countries need to address numerous challenges, from minimizing the use of chemical fertilizers to adopting new technical measures to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. <\/p>\n

With commitment from both sides, agricultural cooperation between Vietnam and China promises to achieve significant results, not only increasing economic value but also contributing to environmental protection and improving the lives of rural people in both countries.<\/p>\n
