50% of Fertilizer is Lost Due to Improper Application.

1. Current status of fertilizer application in agricultural cultivation in Vietnam

The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) has stated that the problem of excessive fertilizer use is prevalent in many areas.

According to Mr. Hoang Trung, Director of the Plant Protection Department, the Mekong Delta is the region that uses the most fertilizer in the country, with an average of 1,071 kg/ha, 42% higher than the national average. For inorganic fertilizers, the national average is 560 kg/ha, while farmers in the Mekong Delta apply an average of 754 kg/ha, 35% higher than the national average.

According to statistics, the efficiency of fertilizer use in our country only reaches 50% for each type. Due to improper application methods, the amount of fertilizer lost annually is very large: 1.77 million tons of urea, 2.07 million tons of superphosphate, and 344,000 tons of potassium.

2. The harmful effects of improper fertilization.
