Cultivation and Fertilization Techniques for Durian Trees During the Recovery Phase
Please refer to Parts I and II as instructed below:
– Part I: Overview and instructions for base fertilization of durian trees at this link: https://youtu.be/VeB3LyhseAk
– Part II: Instructions for fertilizing according to the tree’s growth stages at this link: https://youtu.be/Rmvpl2BPQdA
During the fruit-bearing stage, durian trees will not produce new leaves but will instead shed leaves during the flowering and fruit-growing process. Furthermore, the root system is also significantly damaged, primarily the taproots (the specialized roots for nutrient absorption).
Restoring the tree’s health during this period is crucial, helping it regenerate new leaves and roots so that it has enough strength to nourish the fruit in the next season.
The tree recovery period is calculated from the time of harvest until re-flowering treatment: this period lasts from 6-8 months depending on whether the durian tree is vigorous or weak after harvest. During this period, we nurture 3-4 flushes of new shoots.

Techniques for caring for durian trees during the recovery phase.
– Fifteen days after liming: use Gronn 75% OM Norwegian Organic Fertilizer, applying 3-5 kg. The time interval between two applications is 1.5 months.

– First flush of shoots: After fertilizing and watering, new shoots will emerge. Use NPK 30-10-10 + DAP 18-46-0 Viet Nga fertilizer.
Mixing ratio: 1:1, application rate: 2kg. The interval between two applications is 20-25 days.
NPK 30-10-10 provides Nitrogen (Nts) to help the plant develop strong and thick shoots, and Phosphorus (P2O5hh) to help develop roots and thick leaves.
– Fertilize the second, third, and fourth flushes of shoots as you would the first flush, starting when the leaves on the plant are fully mature and preparing to sprout the next new shoot (the growing tip cracks, which farmers often call “cracking the husk”).
Attention:
+ Each flush of new shoots must be sprayed to control pests and diseases such as green aphids, leaf miners, and leaf blight caused by fungi and bacteria.
+ For each flush of new growth, spray with fertilizer to provide Zinc (Zn), Magnesium (Mg), and other trace elements.
Techniques for handling durian orchards after harvest.
+ Pruning (cutting off dead or dry branches that are bearing fruit).
+ Allow the raised bed to dry (do not water for 3-5 days), then use a hoe to loosen the soil around the base of the roots evenly in a spiral motion (to prevent root damage) to a depth of about 5 cm.
+ After fertilizing the base of the trees, do not water for another 2-3 days (until the soil is slightly dry and white), then apply lime at a rate of 150-200 kg/1000 m2. After applying lime, water continuously for 10-15 days to allow the lime to dissolve into the soil, before proceeding with fertilization to provide nutrients to the durian trees.
Farmers should refer to the information provided before planting durian trees to ensure the best results.
We wish you success in applying proper planting techniques and fertilizer use for durian trees, resulting in a bountiful harvest and good prices.
