The United States buys ten times more Vietnamese pepper than India.
In 2024, the United States significantly increased its pepper imports, with Vietnam continuing to be the largest supplier, far surpassing other countries.
According to the U.S. International Trade Commission, in the first nine months of the year, the United States imported 73,000 tons of pepper, of which 57,000 tons came from Vietnam, ten times more than India – the second-largest supplier.
Compared to the same period last year, Vietnam’s pepper exports to the United States increased by 43%, while the value increased by 60%, reaching $281 million. Vietnam accounted for 78% of the United States’ pepper imports during this period. The upward trend in US pepper imports led to a 56% increase in value compared to last year.
According to the General Department of Vietnam Customs, in the first 10 months of 2024, Vietnam exported 219,000 tons of pepper, worth US$1.11 billion, a decrease of 3% in volume but an increase of 47% in value compared to the same period in 2023. The United States accounted for 29% of exports, remaining the largest market for Vietnamese pepper.
