Widespread Heavy Rain in Southern Vietnam – Farmers Need to Take Proactive Measures to Protect Their Crops

Over the past 24 hours (from 7:00 PM on November 1 to 7:00 PM on November 2), the Southern region has experienced moderate to heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms in several areas.

Some localities recorded high rainfall levels, such as Tra On (Vinh Long) with 93mm, Dam Doi (Ca Mau) with 78.8mm, and Hoi An (An Giang) with 77.4mm.
Widespread heavy rain has been observed across the Mekong Delta, with some areas experiencing prolonged downpours lasting for several hours.

From November 3 to November 5, Southern Vietnam is expected to continue experiencing moderate to heavy rain, with some areas seeing very heavy rainfall ranging from 70–140mm, and even exceeding 140mm in certain localities.

According to the Southern Regional Hydrometeorological Station (cited from the Communist Party of Vietnam Online Newspaper), this rain event is caused by the tropical convergence zone combined with strong northeasterly winds, leading to widespread rainfall across the region.

During thunderstorms, tornadoes, lightning, hail, and strong gusts are possible, posing a risk of flooding in low-lying areas, urban zones, and along rivers and canals.

During November 5–6, heavy rainfall is expected to persist, with total rainfall ranging from 50–100mm, and exceeding 100mm in some areas. The disaster risk level due to heavy rain is rated at Level 1

(according to the Government Information Portal).

Ho Chi Minh City and several southern provinces are at risk of localized flooding as heavy rain coincides with high tides exceeding 1.8 meters.
