In the first 6 months, agriculture, forestry, and fisheries achieved a trade surplus of $8.28 billion.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, in the first six months of the year, the total export value of agricultural, forestry, and fisheries products is estimated at 29.2 billion USD, an increase of 19% compared to the same period last year; the trade surplus for the entire sector reached approximately 8.28 billion USD, an increase of 62.4%.

Vietnam's agricultural exports have many opportunities for growth.

Export Products

Exports of major agricultural products reached US$15.76 billion, an increase of 24.4%. Within this, major forestry products increased by 21.2%; seafood by 4.9%; and livestock products by 3.8%.

The top five commodities with the highest trade surpluses are: wood and wood products; coffee; fruits and vegetables; rice; and shrimp.

In addition, the Agriculture and Rural Development sector also has 7 products/product groups with export values ​​exceeding 1 billion USD: coffee, rubber, rice, fruits and vegetables, cashew nuts, shrimp, and wood products.

In particular, rice and cashew nuts increased in both export volume and value:
– Rice: 4.68 million tons (up 10.4%), value $2.98 billion (up 32%).
– Cashew nuts: 350 thousand tons (up 24.9%), value $1.92 billion (up 17.4%).
– Coffee: 902 thousand tons (down 10.5%), but value reached $3.22 billion (up 34.6%) thanks to a 50.4% increase in average export price.

Regarding export markets, the United States, China, and Japan continue to be the three largest export markets for Vietnam’s agricultural, forestry, and aquatic products.
– USA: Accounted for 20.7% of total export value, an increase of 20.8%.
– China: Accounts for 20.2%, an increase of 9.5%
– Japan: Accounts for 6.7%, up 5%

With these results, in 2024, the agricultural sector can be fully confident in achieving its export target of 54 to 55 billion USD.
