Green vegetables are an important source of nutrition in the daily meals of Vietnamese families, so demand for them is very high. If you, as a farmer, choose to grow leafy vegetables but are unsure how to fertilize them, learn these tips for growing and fertilizing leafy greens with Viet Nga Fertilizer.

Depending on the growing area, variety and season, leafy vegetables can be fertilized at the following rates and methods per 1 ha:

1. Fertilizing Cabbage

1. Fertilizing Cabbage

– Fertilizer types:

+ VNG Organic Green 666 organic fertilizer: 2,000 – 2,500 kg/ha

+ Urea 46N+: 120 – 140 kg/ha

+ Viet Nga DAP 18-46: 40 – 50 kg/ha

+ Viet Nga Potash Powder 61%: 100 – 120 kg/ha

– Application method:

+ Basal application: 100% of the organic fertilizer + 100% of the DAP + 20% of the urea + 20% of the potash. After thorough soil preparation, spread evenly over the bed surface, then rake the bed and cover with soil; apply 1 – 2 days before transplanting.

+ Top-dressing (combined with hoeing to break the soil crust if the beds are not mulched): Apply in holes 7 – 10 cm from the base of the plant and cover completely, or dilute and water in; apply/water in the cool of the late afternoon or early morning. Split top-dressing into 3 applications:

  • 1st application: Use 20% of the urea + 20% of the potash, applied 7 – 10 days after transplanting (once plants have recovered and turned green).
  • 2nd application: Use 30% of the urea + 30% of the potash, applied 20 – 25 days after transplanting (when the leaves spread out).
  • 3rd application: Use 30% of the urea + 30% of the potash when the cabbage begins to form heads.

2. Fertilizing Mustard Greens

– Fertilizer types:

+ VNG Organic Green 666 organic fertilizer: 2,000 kg/ha

+ Urea 46N+: 80 – 100 kg/ha

+ Viet Nga DAP 18-46: 40 – 60 kg/ha

+ Viet Nga Potash Powder 61%: 60 – 80 kg/ha

– Application method:

+ Basal application: 100% of the organic fertilizer + 80% of the DAP + 20% of the urea + 20% of the potash.

+ Split top-dressing into 2 applications:

  • 1st application: Use 20% of the DAP + 40% of the urea + 40% of the potash when plants have 4 – 5 true leaves if direct-seeded, or 10 – 15 days after transplanting. Combine with weeding, hoeing, hilling up and clearing furrows. Short-duration varieties need only one top-dressing.
  • 2nd application: Use the remaining 40% of the urea + 40% of the potash, 25 – 30 days after transplanting. For direct-seeded crops, apply 15 – 20 days after the first application. Combine with weeding, hoeing, hilling up and clearing furrows (without mulching the beds).
